Chicoselfie Ignites with Their Latest Single “Fuego”
Austin’s local pop scene just got hotter, thanks to Latin jam band Chicoselfie with their latest release, Fuego, a single that fuses psychedelic rhythms and narrative experience that’s just suited for a sweaty dancefloor as it is for a long road trip through the mountains.
Meet Chicoselfie
Chicoselfie is made up of a diverse crew of musicians who are as much about the groove as they are about friendship. The current lineup includes Alex Camet (vocals and guitar), Tomas Volpi (bass), Carlos Fuentes (backing vocals), Chris Schreck (drums), and Andy Nolte (synths and keys). Together, they bring a bilingual, borderless energy to Austin’s eclectic soundscape.

From the Mountains to the Mix
Fuego came to life in the mountains of Santiago, Monterrey, where the band took their gear, their creativity, and an open-minded spirit to a cabin retreat. “All we wanted to do is jam to see what flows,” says the band. What emerged from that session is a track that simmers with tension and desire.
Told from a third-person perspective, Fuego spins the tale of someone living in luxury, seducing a stranger in a bar. The narrative vivid, steeped in sensuality and temptation. It draws inspiration form the Monterrey mountains, whose raw intensity is reflected in the emotional and musical energy of the song.
The Sound & Vision of “Fuego”
The name Fuego is Spanish for “fire” and is more than a title. “It represents a lot of what we have inside,” the band explains. That fire is heard in every note, felt in every beat. The song is an expression of where Chicoselfie is today: adventurous, confident and fully in control of their unique sound.
And what exactly is that sound? The band calls it “Latin jam synth pop.” It’s a style that blends Latin percussions and guitar riffs, inviting people to dance while staying true to their musical roots. Fuego is a bold consolidation of the Chicoselfie identity.
From the song’s cover art and Instagram reel, the aesthetic surrounding Fuego is just as intentional as the track itself. The band aimed for a vibe they describe as “cumbia rock brothel”, an elegant and provocative visual that echoes with the song’s themes of seduction, spontaneity and unapologethic rhythm.
What to Expect from “Fuego”?
Chicoselfie wants Fuego to truly connect. “You can blend anything,” the band says while reflecting on their commitment to genre fusion. The track is designed for dancing and letting go, but it’s also crafted for musicians and deep listeners—those who appreciate jammy riffs or an unexpected beat switches.
Listeners may be surprised by the range of sounds Chicoselfie weaves in this project. It’s a chance for the band to define themselves differently, showcasing their versatility and capturing that this moment represents in their evolution.
Ultimately, Chicoselfie hopes that what sticks with listeners after the final note is the catchy melody, the urge to dance, and an impression strong enough to make people seek out one of their upcoming live shows. “We want them to come support another Latino band from ATX,” they added.
